Mazda 6 gets a facelift at the 2014 LA Motor Show
Updates to Mazda 6 bring it up to scratch with new Ford Mondeo and VW Passat
Alongside the new CX-3 and updated CX-5, Mazda has also taken the wraps off a thoroughly revised 6 at the LA Motor Show. Changes include a refreshed design inside and out, more safety equipment and the option of four-wheel drive on top-spec diesel models. Exterior upgrades range from sharper ‘fins’ in the front bumper and a more three-dimensional look for the front grille to a new LED signature for the tail-lights. New 19-inch wheels are now available, along with two new body colours – Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic.
Inside, the materials have all been upgraded, while there's a new BMW-style central display that sprouts from the top of the dash. An electronic handbrake is added to declutter the centre console, a rear seat heater is available for the first time, and a new head-up display helps the driver keep their eyes on the road. Tweaked damper settings are said to improve both comfort and handling, revised seats hold the driver and passenger more firmly in place and extra sound-deadening makes the car up to 25 per cent quieter on the motorway. SkyActiv-D 2.2 models are now also available with four-wheel drive.
New safety features include adaptive LED headlights, lane-keep assist and a development of Mazda’s autobrake function that can detect the car behind you, too. The revised 6 goes on sale later this year with prices still to be confirmed.
