New 2020 Mazda 2: UK prices and specs revealed
Refreshed Ford Fiesta rival gets mild-hybrid assistance and updated technology across the board
Mazda has announced prices and final specifications for the updated 2 supermini, which goes on sale in the UK this November.
Prices will start from £15,795 for the revised model line-up, set apart from its predecessor with a minor exterior redesign, an updated interior, updated on-board technology and changes under the bonnet.
Styling chances include fresh 16-inch alloy wheels, reworked headlights intended to make the car appear wider, tweaked front and rear bumpers, thinner fog lamps and a new mesh grille.
Inside, the Mazda 2 features new dashboard trims, door inserts and new air vents, with the firm claiming the materials now used are of a higher quality than before. A new pair of front seats, supposedly more supportive than before have been added, while Mazda has also added extra sound deadening in a bid to improve refinement.
Mazda has also reworked its supermini’s platform, with fresh dampers and a revised version of its G-Vectoring Control chassis management software. The Japanese firm claims these updates will make the Mazda 2’s handling more stable at high speeds, while maintaining a comfortable ride.
The engine line-up now comprises of two versions of Mazda's 1.5-litre petrol Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine, but now with mild-hybrid assistance as standard on all manual transmission cars. Mazda claims 53.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 94g/km possible depending on spec.
The £15,795 entry-level SE-L car features this engine with 73bhp, also including 15-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, climate and cruise control and rear parking sensors.
All grades above it - SE-L Nav, Sport Nav, and GT Sport Nav, get an 89bhp version of the 1.5-litre mild hybrid engine, a seven-inch colour touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, lane departure warning and lane keep assist plus city emergency braking. In Sport Nav trim, this engine can be paired with an automatic gearbox, but loses the mild hybrid system,
Sport Nav cars upwards recieve 16-inch alloy wheels and gloss black grille trim, tinted rear windows and chrome exhaust tips too. The range topping GT Sport Nav car adds a reversing camera, a colour head-up display, plus heated leather seats and a heated steering wheel.
