New Maserati Levante V8 Ultima to be revealed at Goodwood

Special edition super SUV will showcase Maserati’s final V8

Maserati is bringing its long and illustrious history of V8 engines to a close with a new version of the Levante called the V8 Ultima.

The Levante V8 Ultima and Ghibli 334 Ultima will be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, both heading up the famous hillclimb route so spectators can listen-in to their roaring V8s.

Maserati can trace its history of V8-powered grand tourers back to the Maserati 5000 GT of 1959. While the Levante V8 Ultima might be a contemporary premium SUV, the soundtrack should be suitably old-school thanks to a 564bhp twin-turbo V8 engine - the same unit found in the Ghibli 334 Ultima.

Based on the range-topping Levante Trofeo model, the V8 Ultima gets its name emblazoned on the front wing and headrests, plus all the exterior performance tweaks of the Trofeo version.

As standard the Levante Trofeo comes with a 4.1-second 0-62mph time and a 187mph top speed - we expect identical performance figures from the Ultima version. Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to a rear-bias four-wheel drive system.

Only 103 Levante V8 Ultimas will be built with production of the V8-powered Maserati Trofeo models set to end in 2024. Pricing should comfortably exceed the Levante Trofeo’s £139,500 starting price tag.
