First look inside new LEVC L380 luxury electric MPV

The London taxi-cab company has set it sights on the more premium end of the market

LEVC (known as London Electric Vehicle Company) has given us a fresh look at its latest vehicle - the LEVC L380 MPV. It’s an eight-seat people carrier with all-electric power and will arrive in the UK within the next two years.

The L380 utilises new Space Oriented Architecture from LEVC’s parent company Geely. LEVC says the platform offers “advances in range, efficiency, safety, charging time, durability, and connectivity”.  The Chinese-owned British firm will also bring out other new models on SOA, although it has yet to reveal what segments they will sit in.

These fresh images of the L380’s interior show it in six-seat configuration, but LEVC says there will be space for up to eight seats in its new MPV. Specifications have yet to be revealed, although we can see it’ll get a huge central touchscreen coupled with a smaller driver’s display and a minimalist overall layout. There’s also a huge panoramic sunroof that sits over the second and third row of seats - with that second row benefitting from a large screen for each passenger and a smaller screen embedded in their individual armrests.

In terms of range, LEVC claims that SOA allows for up to 431 miles of range on a single charge and there’s also scope to choose between 73kWh and 120kWh batteries for the platform as well as a choice of rear, front and four-wheel drive. We imagine the L380 will be based around a larger battery given its long wheelbase, although the inherently inefficient aerodynamic nature of its MPV body will mean it won’t reach that maximum range figure.

The exterior of the L380 is certainly a different design to that of the retro-inspired LEVC TX, with a full-width light bar and smooth front end. It’s notable how far forward the windscreen sits, which should aid visibility, plus there are flush-fitting door handles. The rear side doors are sliding ones, too, in typical MPV fashion.

LEVC says the L380 will be launched in China in 2024 and then will arrive in the UK “within the next two years”. Pricing hasn’t been revealed, but the vehicle should rival the likes of the Volvo EM90 and Lexus LM in the premium MPV market.
