Land Rover has announced a raft of updates for the Velar for 2018, with a fresh six-cylinder diesel engine choice the headline act alongside enhanced driver assistance and safety features.

Customers are now offered a 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit producing 271bhp and 625Nm of torque, with Velars powered by the new engine receiving the D275 badge. No performance figures have been revealed, but Land Rover claims that it’s capable of delivering up to 42.8mpg, with CO2 emissions of 175g/km.

Elsewhere, all petrol and diesel units have been updated with new particulate filters, while the P250 and P300 petrol models both benefit from a larger, 83-litre fuel tank.

Driver assistance technology has also been updated with both Steering Assist and Lane Centring, which allows the vehicle to maintain a steady path in a single lane. The Steering Assist feature works at speeds of up to 111mph.

Now fitted as standard on all models, is a Rear Camera, Front and Rear Parking Aids, Driver Condition Monitor, Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist. The forward collision detection system has been updated too, working between 6-99mph to alert the driver to potential hazards and applying the brakes automatically in a critical situation.

Coil springs are fitted as standard on all Velar models, but four-corner air suspension is now an option on V6 powered models, plus the four-cylinder D240 and P300 cars. Adaptive Dynamic damping is available on some models too, scanning wheel and body movement to constantly varying damper resistance on every wheel.

Finally, the Kvadrat made Premium Textile interior is now available more widely across the Velar range, and is not reserved for top end models exclusively. The new Velar D275 is on sale now, priced from £49,740.
