The Land Rover Discovery turns 25 this year, and the firm will celebrate with new special edition model. Called the Discovery XXV, the new model is based on the top-spec Discovery HSE Luxury. This already features kit like an 825w Meridian stereo, leather upholstery and 20-inch alloys, but the special goes further.

The Discovery XXV is available in Causeway Grey, and features Narvik Black grille surrounds and mirror caps, plus black trim on the grille and front wing vents. Silver full-length roof rails, body-coloured door handles and a stainless steel bumper accessory tread plate are also included.

As you’d expect there are also plenty of Discovery XXV badges on the door and tailgate, while the special gets a unique design of 20-inch alloys.

Inside, the special model gets more XXV badges, while the fascia, the instrument panel binnacle and door tops are clad in Windsor leather.

Standard kit is the same as the HSE Luxury, so everything from climate control and keyless go, to rear-seat entertainment and a TV in the dashboard is included.

Talking about the car’s 25th year, Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director at Jaguar Land Rover, said “Since its inception the Land Rover Discovery has been pivotal to the success of the brand and has now become an iconic design in its own right.

The Discovery XXV Special Edition is the ultimate in sophisticated versatility and a fitting tribute to the legendary status of this iconic Land Rover.”

As with all Discovery models sold in the UK, there’s a single engine choice – a 252bhp 3.0-litre SDV6 turbodiesel that allows the car to sprint from 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 112mph. Land Rover claims it’ll return 35.3mpg and emits 213g/km.

Prices for the Discovery XXV will start at around £63,000 – up from the £59,450 asked for the current standard Discovery HSE Luxury.

The Discovery also gets the full suite of Land Rover off-road aids, including Terrain Response and Hill Descent Control.
