New Jaguar I-Pace Black joins electric car line-up

Special edition electric Jaguar I-Pace Black models receive styling tweaks and equipment boost

Jaguar has introduced this new I-Pace Black special edition to its all-electric SUV line-up, boosting the appeal of the brand’s groundbreaking EV with a sporty new look and an upgraded equipment specification.

The I-Pace Black follows Jaguar’s recently announced F-Type Black edition sports car and is priced from £72,445. The new model boasts a gloss black finish for the door mirrors, the grille and the grille surround, the side window surrounds and the car’s badging. Buyers also benefit from 20-inch alloy wheels - in black, naturally - a panoramic roof and privacy glass.

Inside, the new car features Ebony leather sports seats, more gloss black finishing for the trim and an Ebony headlining.

An I-Pace HSE Black is also available, priced from £76,695. This is based on the higher-spec HSE trim level and features even more luxurious kit as standard, as well as the styling additions the Black brings inside and out.

All cars feature LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated sports seats and a heated steering wheel, keyless operation, Jaguar’s 10-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment tech, a digital dash, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, AEB, lane-keep assist and a 360-degree camera set-up, among other features.

HSE adds kit such as matrix LED headlights, a powered tailgate with gesture recognition and the Driver Assistance Package, adding more driver assistance and safety kit, such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot assist.

The powertrain is unchanged, so no matter which spec you choose, the I-Pace still uses a 90kWh battery feeding a pair of electric motors, giving four-wheel drive and a total of 395bhp and 696Nm of torque. It’s enough for a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds, while Jaguar claims a range of 280 miles on a full charge in base I-Pace Black trim, due to this car’s larger wheels.

With 100kW rapid charging capability, a feed at this level will add 78 miles of range in just 15 minutes, while hooked up to a 7kW wallbox the battery can be recharged in 12.7 hours.

However, the I-Pace comes with an 11kW on-board charger, so with a feed that can support this supply, an overnight charge from a wallbox cuts the time to 8.6 hours.

Commenting on the release of the I-Pace Black, Julian Thomson, Jaguar Design Director, said: “The I-Pace’s dramatic, cab-forward profile, short overhangs and taut, muscular haunches give it a sense of drama which sets it apart from other SUVs.

“Creating the exclusive I-Pace Black gave us the opportunity to subtly enhance the design, making it look even more dynamic, distinctive and desirable.”
