Genesis Electrified G80 to up its appeal with sharper looks and more space
Already luxurious electric saloon has had its wheelbase stretched to provide more room for rear-seat passengers
The new and improved Genesis Electrified G80 is due to go on sale next month, and could be the perfect choice for buyers overwhelmed by the almost limitless customisation options other premium brands offer – because there’s only going to be one version and one specification available.
The Electrified G80 has received most of the same upgrades Genesis recently made to its GV60 coupé and Electrified GV70 SUV, including a slightly sharper look and some new tech. But the BMW i5 rival has also had its wheelbase extended by 130mm to provide a more luxurious experience for rear-seat passengers.
Anyone who’s been chauffeured around in the outgoing G80 should notice an increased sense of space as, according to Genesis, extending the wheelbase has freed up 995mm of legroom (an improvement of 83mm) and 950mm of headroom (up 20mm).
Rear-wheel steering will be available as an optional extra on the updated Electrified G80, though, to help the new, longer version tackle tight city streets and also make it feel more stable at high speeds.
Plus, for the first time in a Genesis, there’s an intriguing feature called Chauffeur Mode, which is claimed to provide smoother acceleration and greater comfort through optimised torque and suspension settings. And if buyers want to really treat their passengers, the 2nd Row Comfort Pack will add electric closing doors and electrically-operated rear blinds.
Bigger battery, but no extra range?
Among the array of new tech is a 27-inch OLED display stretching across the dashboard, with this single screen housing both the vital driving information and media. Apparently it can be split into two or three separate screens, depending on the driver’s preferences.
A new 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo with Dolby Atmos immersive sound capability has been fitted, along with a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, revised ambient lighting and a fingerprint reader on the centre console that can be used to start the car.
Design changes for the Electrified G80 are relatively subtle, but the front bumper has been refreshed to make the car look wider, the headlights now feature Genesis’ ‘Micro Lens Array’ matrix-LED technology and there’s a striking new set of 19-inch alloy wheels.

The rear is marked out by a cleaner bumper design and tail-lights, while the revamp also extends to the exterior colour palette, which now features 14 different hues, including a new Geneva Silver. Similarly, there will be four interior colour schemes on offer, including an exclusive new Prussian Blue.
Finally, the updated Electrified G80 will be powered by a new 94.5kWh battery that Genesis says can provide up to 354 miles of range from a single charge. That’s actually the same as the outgoing model (which uses a smaller 87.2kWh unit), but we assume this is a side effect of elongating the car by half a foot.
Prices for the Genesis Electrified G80 currently start from £76,535, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the updated model costs closer to £80,000 considering the extra space and technology that’s been added, plus the larger battery.
