Genesis Hybrid Sports Sedan Concept revealed in New York

Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis has pulled the covers off a new executive saloon car concept at NYIAS 2016

This, the new Genesis Hybrid Sports Sedan concept, has been unveiled at the 2016 New York Motor Show. The sleek four-door saloon gives us an idea of how future models from Hyundai's new premium brand could look - in particular its upcoming BMW 3 Series rival.

Genesis says the concept is its ‘modern view of luxury’, with a full-leather interior, floating 21-inch curved display screen and four individual sculpted seats. The centre console runs down the spine of the car dividing the cabin into two separate parts and creating a more lounge-like feel.

Of more interest is the new HMI (Human Machine Interface) concept fitted inside. The enormous hi-res curved display responds to single or multi-touch finger swipes and is also equipped with handwriting recognition. 3D gesture-control also allows passenger to ‘throw over’ content from one area of the screen to the other with a swipe of their arm.

On the outside, the long bonnet, cab-rearward design and short front overhang give the Genesis Hybrid Sports Sedan Concept the look of a GT car. Thin horizontal headlamps frame the wide mesh grille, while air flow guides sit below the lights channelling air around the car to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

Beneath the body sits a 242bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. Genesis has not released any performance figures or information on the hybrid's powertrain.

Manfred Fitzgerald, head of the Genesis brand, said: "The New York concept is a progressive concept car that showcases the design quality of the brand. With its expressive volumes and refined design, the New York Concept truly embodies the athletic elegance, which characterizes Genesis products."
