The special edition Ford Mustang celebrates the 55th anniversary of the ubiquitous muscle car, with sales starting in August

Ford has announced a special edition Mustang55, which celebrates the 55th anniversary of the “Mustang” nameplate. Features include a unique exterior styling package, an upgraded interior and a range of exclusive badging. Sales for the new model will start in August, with deliveries expected by the end of the year.

Exterior styling revisions for the Mustang55 include unique 19-inch alloy wheels, a new black grille, an optional rear spoiler, unique black badging, a black painted roof and a set of bonnet- and side-stripe decals. The special edition model is also available in both Fastback and Convertible body styles.

Inside, buyers get heated and cooled front seats, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and an eight-inch infotainment screen as standard. Mustang55 models fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox also get a unique moulded shift-knob, while the automatic versions get an alloy item.

The special edition Ford Mustang55 shares its rear-wheel-drive powertrain with the Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8. The naturally aspirated unit produces 444bhp and 527Nm of torque, which allows automatic-equipped models to dispatch the 0–62mph sprint in a claimed 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph.

Ford’s entry-level 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang has also received a lift, with a range of updates inspired by the brand’s Shelby models. Revisions include a set of machined 19-inch alloy wheels, fresh bonnet stripes, new door mirrors and a repainted boot spoiler and front grille, finished in Magnetic Grey.

In addition, Ford’s Active Valve Performance Exhaust now features a “Good Neighbour Mode” which limits the exhaust’s noise output a pre-programmed times of the day to avoid disturbing neighbours. When driving normally, the system automatically adapts the exhaust note according to the selected drive mode.

Ford has also announced it will continue to produce the Mustang Bullitt for another year, following increased customer demand. Prices for both the special edition Ford Mustang55 5.0-litre V8 and updated Ford Mustang 2.3-litre EcoBoost will be announced nearer to the cars’ on-sale dates in August.
