Three-car garage: Nissan Qashqai, Leaf and 370Z Nismo for the price of a top-spec Ariya

The Nissan Ariya is a former Auto Express Car of the Year, but you can also get a selection of other great Nissans for a similar price

Brand loyalty really is quite something and occasionally it can lead to us making decisions that might seem strange on the outside, but in fact are perfectly reasonable. For instance, you could have an excellent sports car, an electric car and a family SUV all on your drive - all from Nissan.

Nissan 370Z Nismo - £23,995

First up, let’s start with the fun one - the Nissan 370Z – although this is no ordinary 370Z, because it’s the Nismo version. For the uninitiated, Nismo is Nissan's performance division, and it performs a similar role to the one played by AMG for Mercedes these days. In the 370Z Nismo you’ll find the output of its naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6 is lifted from the regular car’s 324bhp to 339bhp, with all that power going to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. There’s also a bodykit, sports exhaust and 19-inch alloy wheels, which all combined to make the Nismo version cost over £10,000 more than the standard 370Z when it was new.

Nissan Leaf - £12,999

The Nissan Leaf remains a solid entry point into the world of electric hatchbacks and, in the used market, hefty depreciation adds a whole new layer of appeal. A comparable Kia Niro EV or Volkswagen ID.3 would cost several thousand pounds more, but for less than £13,000 you can get a two-year-old example of the latest Leaf. A range of 168 miles isn’t the best (that’s where the Qashqai and 370Z come in), but the Leaf will be cheap to run, a doddle to drive and surprisingly refined.

Nissan Qashqai -  £12,347

The original Nissan Qashqai was a game changer when it was launched in the mid-2000s, showing the world that people wanted a high-riding SUV that drove like a car and wasn’t too focused on going off-road. The current edition is as good as ever and with the Visia trim of this model you get the smaller 17-inch wheels, which make the ride noticeably softer than on Qashqais with larger wheels. It’s also a roomy car inside, feels well built and comes with an all-important feature for families with young children: rear doors that open by 90 degrees.
