Just so you know, this is an older review of the 2018-2024 MG HS. If you are interested in information about the reliability of the latest MG HS, or news of upcoming MG models, please follow the links provided.

One of the HS’s more redeeming features is the excellent level of standard safety features it has courtesy of the MG Pilot system fitted to all models. This includes Active Emergency BrakingLane Keep Assist with a Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Intelligent High Beam Assist. The list is even longer for automatic models, which also get Traffic Jam Assist and adaptive cruise control.

The MG HS was put through Euro NCAP’s barrage of crash safety tests in 2019, and was awarded the organisation’s maximum five-star rating for its performance. It received an impressive 92 per cent rating for adult occupants, 81 per cent for child passenger protection and 76 per cent in the safety assistance category.

The HS didn't feature in our latest 2023 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, but the MG brand did. It came bottom in the manufacturer rankings, which is even lower than its second-from-bottom result in 2022, and shows that the manufacturer really needs to pull their socks up.

Warranty

MG now offers a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty for its vehicles, which is able to be transferred to any new owner. In comparison, Kia also includes seven years of warranty cover with a 100,000-mile limit, while Skoda vehicles are protected for just three years and 60,000 miles.

The plug-in hybrid's battery pack also comes with a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty, which is longer than Renault’s but not as generous as the Kia battery warranty.

Servicing

Service intervals for the HS are every 15,000 miles or annually, whichever comes first. MG service plans allow customers to spread the cost of scheduled maintenance by paying on a monthly basis, or a one-off payment if you prefer, and includes 12 months’ free MG Roadside Assistance provided by the AA as a little bonus.
