755bhp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 launched

The brand-new ZR1 is the fastest ever Corvette, with a 210mph top speed

Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off its fastest Corvette ever with the launch of the new ZR1, which produces 755bhp and 969Nm of torque.

The grunt comes from the same 6.2-litre supercharged V8 as the previous generation ZR1, but Chevrolet’s engineers have squeezed an extra 107bhp out of the LT5 engine for the latest range-topping model.

This is mostly down to a new and more efficient intercooled supercharger system, with Chevrolet claiming it offers 52 per cent more displacement than the supercharger found on the current Z06. The engine also comes with dual fuel injection, which provides the engine with both direct injection and supplemental port injection to further increase the performance of the engine.

Power is fed through either a seven-speed manual gearbox or, for the first time on a ZR1, an eight-speed semi-automatic ‘box. Top speed of the ZR1 is 210mph, which is a 5mph increase on the previous model. The giant rear wing provides the ZR1 with around 431kg of downforce at high speed.

Aerodynamics plays a big part in the new ZR1, with Chevrolet fitting a deep front splitter to provide added downforce for track-day use. The shape of the body has been altered to channel more air to the rear wing, with added air ducts to accommodate the 13 radiators that cool the supercharged V8 under the bonnet.

Along with the standard rear wing, Chevrolet also offers a two-way adjustable High Wing for more track-orientated customers. The adjustable wing forms part of the ZTK Performance Package that includes a front splitter, magnetic ride control and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

The ZR1 has been launched with the Sebring Orange Design Package, which includes a unique orange paint scheme with matching orange brake callipers and interior stitching.

Standard equipment includes heated and vented leather-trimmed seats plus a Bose premium audio system. Track day enthusiasts can opt for the competition sports seats and performance data recorder, too.

The Corvette ZR1 goes on sale next spring in the United States; with the current Z06 retailing at £92,680, the ZR1 will likely nudge the £120,000 mark.

How do you think the Corvette ZR1 will compare to the cream of the current supercar crop? Let us know in the comments...
