Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI S DSG

Superbly finished interior and massive boot mark out the Yeti

Skoda Yeti

Could this be Britain’s most stress-free car? Easy to drive, practical, dependable and backed by an award-winning dealer network, the Skoda Yeti is the definition of trouble-free motoring.

And with penny-pinching running costs of only 34.4 pence per mile, the rugged crossover won’t even cause your bank manager’s heart rate to rise.

The Yeti’s raised ride height makes access to the cabin easy, and once aboard the driver has a commanding view of the road. Better still, with its light steering, excellent visibility and secure handling, the Skoda inspires confidence in all conditions.

And that’s not all, because the turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine punches well above its weight and the slick seven-speed twin-clutch transmission takes care of the gearchanges.

Inside, the Yeti can be transformed from practical family holdall to spacious removal van in a matter of moments. The rear bench features three individual seats that slide back and forth for extra legroom or greater luggage space.

They can even be removed altogether, liberating a cavernous 1,760 litres of carrying capacity. There’s also a low loading lip, which helps to ensure that filling the Skoda’s boot won’t be a back-breaking exercise.

But don’t just take our word for it that the Yeti is a no-hassle car to run. In Auto Express’s Driver Power 2011 satisfaction survey, owners placed the Skoda second only to the luxurious Jaguar XF for ease of driving. They also raved about the crossover’s reliability, build quality, practicality and handling. We can’t think of a much better endorsement.

Pete Gibson, Staff photographer

“The Yeti will appeal to all car buyers; young and old. This brilliant family car blends the flexibility of an MPV with the raised ride height and visibility of an off-roader. Plus, it stood up to 12 months’ hard use in my hands.”
