McLaren MP4-12C

The first McLaren since the iconic F1 has some big boots to fill, but with 600bhp and a host of hi-tech materials the signs are good

The MP4-12C marks the beginning of McLaren's long-term plan to become an established member of the supercar elite.

With a lightweight design featuring a Formula 1 style carbon monocoque that weighs just 80kg and a slew of hi-tech gadgets, this latest McLaren is certain to shake up the supercar market.

Under the bonnet a 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine puts out 600hp which should be enough to see it to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of over 200mph.

Priced between £125,000 and £175,000 the MP4-12C has Italian rivals, the Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 firmly in its sights.
