Shelby GT-H Mustang now available to rent in US

Special edition Shelby GT-H Mustang is available to rent from US car hire brand Hertz

Hiring a car when you go on holiday to the US can be an odd experience, as you're likely to get hold of a model that's never been on sale in the UK and handles like a boat - but now you can rent a special edition Ford Mustang from Hertz in certain cities.

Driving in the USA: top tips

The Shelby GT-H gets tuned dampers, lowered springs and new 19-inch aluminium wheels, plus a gold and black paint job. It's a throwback to the 1960s, as the original Mustang was also offered as a rental car back then in the same colours, also tuned by Shelby.

There's also a Hertz logo on the wings and sill plates and a Ford Performance exhaust. There aren't many other changes, as the car gets the same 5.0-litre V8 engine as the standard Mustang with 429bhp and 542Nm of torque.

It's part of what the rental brand calls its 'Adrenaline Collection', and you can hire the Mustang from one of 17 airports around the country, with locations in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose and Phoenix.
