Limited edition FIA Shelby Cobra revealed

The FIA Shelby Cobra CSX7000 marks 50 years of racing Cobras, limited to just 50 models

To mark 50 years since the Shelby Cobra first debuted in the FIA racing world, Shelby America has unveiled a limited edition model to celebrate reaching the milestone. The Cobra CSX7000 will be limited to just 50 models, with each finished in ‘Viking Blue’ and decorated with FIA racing stripes.

The model is designed to replicate the 1964 Shelby 289 FIA Cobra, so features widened front and rear bumpers, cut-back doors, new dampers, 15-inch racing wheels and oil cooler scoops. Modern components such as large steel disc brakes and a stronger frame have also been fitted – it is also available with an aluminium shell, traditional it was made from fibreglass.

While the commemorative racing Cobra is fitted with a complete side exit exhaust system, it doesn’t come with an engine. The idea is that customers shoehorn their own engine into the Cobra, which was historically a small-block Ford V8.

The 50th Anniversary CSX7000 Cobra costs from $94,995 (£57,770) with the fibreglass body and $159,995 (£97,300) fitted with the modern aluminium shell. The model debuted at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona last week.
