Acura starts surreal and funny new ad campaign

New Acura videos parody 1960s car adverts, featuring space exploration, potato salad and all-plastic cupholders

A series of surreal 1960s-style adverts has been created as part of a sponsorship of US comic Jerry Seinfeld's web video series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The ads depict two Acrua models, which is Honda's luxury sub-brand in North America, Hong Kong and China.

The eight adverts were directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed all three Men in Black films and Wild Wild West, both starring Will Smith. It's narrated by Jerry Seinfeld, star of the sitcom Seinfeld, an American show that ran from 1989 to 1998. His latest project, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a trip with a fellow comedian to a coffee shop in one of Seinfeld's fantastic classic cars.

The third series of the show is now sponsored by Acura, and the series of ads will be attached to the new episodes. The cars in the ads include the US-only Acura MDX (with real nylon carpeting!) and the RLX (a rebadged Honda Legend with an all-metal exterior and all-plastic cupholders).

You can watch all eight videos in the playlist below.
