Sony teams up with Red Bull F1's Adrian Newey to create incredible X2014 concept for Gran Turismo 6
Sony has unveiled the sensational new Red Bull X2014 concept at the launch of the new Gran Turismo 6 racing game. It follows the collaboration between the two brands in 2010 when they launched the Red Bull X1, designed by Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey.
Technical details are limited on the new concept but there will be three variants of the race car: the X2014 Fan car, X2014 Standard car and X2014 Junior car. And like their predecessor, all will be developed by Adrian Newey. As you can see in these digital renderings, the fan car features a large turbine at the rear to suck the car onto the road - a technology also used on the Gordon Murray-designed Brabham BT46 F1 car in 1978.
Launched for Gran Turismo 5 is 2010, the Red Bull X1 was powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 developing 1438bhp. It could hit 60mph in 1.4 seconds and reach 200mph in 6.1 seconds. Top speed was Bugatti Veyron territory at 249mph and under acceleration could reach 8.7G, the very limit at what the human body can withstand.
On a virtual simulator, current Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettle slashed 30 seconds off the laptime around infamous Nurburgring, when compared to an F1 car.
