Audi RS6 Avant

The Audi RS6 Avant is the first of four RS models due in 2013. The 552bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 the RS6 uses, replaces the old Lamborghini-derived V10 and is now bestowed with the accolade of being the most powerful production estate car in the world. When all that power isn’t being used, the RS6 is able to shut down four of its eight cylinders to conserve fuel and improve economy. Prices for the Audi RS6 Avant start from £75,500.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The new plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander, is set to be the words first plug-in SUV. Benefitting from a four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine, as well as a 79bhp electric motor the Outlander has an electric/petrol range of more than 540 miles and a combined fuel economy of 143mpg. The batteries can fully charge from flat in approximately 4.5 hours and reached 80 per cent charge in only 30 minutes with a quick-charging set-up. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is on sale this August with a price tag of around £35,000.

VW Golf Bluemotion

Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion

The new VW Golf Bluemotion will be the most efficient Golf ever produced. The newly developed 1.6-litre diesel engine returns 88.3mpg and emits only 85g/km of CO2. With a 50-litre fuel tank the theoretical range of the VW Golf Bluemotion is 970 miles. Aerodynamic tinkering and 15mm lowered suspension also helps this Golf to be the most efficient ever. Prices start from £20,335 for the three-door model and rise to £20,990 for the five-door.

Hyundai ix35

Priced from £19,500, the Hyundai ix35 has had a mid-life facelift and is an alternative to the Nissan Qashqai and Mazda CX-5. Biggest changes are to the engine line-up and steering, while an automatic gearbox is now an option on diesel models.  

VW Golf GTD

The VW Golf GTD is second of three new Golf’s available this month. Powered by a 181bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel, the Golf GTD is capable of a sprit from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds yet still return 67mpg. Its styling makes it just as desirable as the hot Golf GTI but being diesel powered the performance isn’t in the same league. Prices start from £25,940.   

VW Golf GTI

The new mk7 VW Golf GTI is quicker, cleaner and comfier than the model it replaces. Visually, the GTI is very similar to the Golf GTD, which also goes on sale this month. However, fitted with the desirable GTI badge and 217bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the GTI its one of the best all-round hot hatches on the market. A performance pack is also available, which increases power by 10bhp and adds larger brakes plus an electronically controlled mechanical limited-slip differential. Three and five-door models are available with prices starting from £26,000.
