Used BMW X5 (Mk3, 2013-2018) review - What do owners think?

For many editions of our Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, the BMW X5 Mk3 wasn’t featured on the list due to the limited number of entries. On the times it did make the cut, it wasn’t exactly great: in its most recent appearance in 2014, the X5 came in at a lowly 96th out of 150 cars, with electrical faults making up many of the owner complaints with the car.

Reliability

Due to the limited number of times it’s been referenced by owners, the BMW X5 Mk3 wasn’t a regular in our Driver Power surveys. When it did make the cut, it wasn’t the strongest performer: in 2014, it came low down in the table in 96th place. In the same year, BMW as a brand was ranked around mid-table in 15th place, which was ahead of Audi but behind other rival brands like Mercedes, Jaguar and Lexus.

There is at least consolation in knowing many of the mechanical parts and technology on the X5 Mk3 has been used on other BMW models, so the worst of the issues should ideally have been ironed out by now.
