Best for comfort

We name Britain's most comfortable cars, and shame the worst!

Making a car comfortable isn’t easy. It relies on seats that provide ample support for occupants of all shapes and sizes, with lots of adjustment to give the perfect driving position for all.

Volvo is world famous for its comfortable seats, and you agree they are the best in the business. With a stunning rating of 96.36 per cent, the old-shape V70 is once again unbeatable.

Second place goes to a model that’s long been renowned for its cruising comfort – Rover’s 75. The Brit has beaten cars costing three times as much, and that includes Land Rover’s luxuriously trimmed Discovery 3 in third place.

Propping up the chart again is Vauxhall’s old-shape Corsa, just behind the firm’s previous Astra. Poor ratings for models driven by a huge number of UK motorists.

The winners:
1. Volvo V70 (old)“The Volvo V70 is a great car, quick - but not the least sporty – but it is quiet and supremely comfortable.” Mr Jacob Westin, London
2. Rover 75“Smooth relaxed ride makes long journeys easy. Classic retro styling looks great and attracts favourable comments.” Mr Christopher Wright, Great Sutton, Cheshire.
3. Land Rover Discovery 3“Quite exceptional comfort and practicality. A most relaxing, reassuring vehicle that has real ability if the going gets tough.” Mr John Child, Chichester, West Sussex
