New 2019 Audi A1 Citycarver: prices and specs announced

Audi’s new off-road inspired version of the A1 Sportback is on sale now, priced from £22,040

The new off-road-inspired Audi A1 Citycarver is on sale now priced from £22,040. The model sits between the existing Sport and S-line variants, and features a raised ride height and rugged updated exterior styling.

Standard equipment for the entry-level Audi A1 Citycarver 30 TFSI includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a sports steering wheel, a pair of fabric sports seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.8-inch infotainment system. Nine exterior paint finishes are also available, and all are offered with a contrasting black or grey roof.

Buyers also get a host of safety and convenience technology, including lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, cruise control, hill-hold assist, a speed limiter and Audi’s pre-sense collision mitigation system with pedestrian and cyclist recognition.

The 30 TFSI is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre three cylinder, producing 114bhp and 200Nm of torque. It can be specced with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic gearbox and offers a 0–62mph time of 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 123mph.

A more powerful 35 TFSI edition uses turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, which produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. It’s also available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic, and offers a 0–62mph time of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. Like the standard A1, the larger capacity engine carries a £1,080 premium over the smaller unit.

Styling updates over the standard A1 Sportback include a new front bumper with a pair of high-mounted intakes, black plastic wheel arch mouldings, redesigned side-skirts and stainless-steel-coloured underbody protection panels front and rear. A new, octagonal radiator grille also features, which Audi says is inspired by its range of “Q-branded” SUVs.

The A1 Citycarver’s ride height is around four centimetres (an inch and a half) taller than that of the standard A1 Sportback, thanks to a slightly raised suspension setup and larger, 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can spec wheels up to 18 inches in diameter as an optional extra, along with Audi’s dynamic package, which adds adjustable dampers and red brake calipers.

The Citycarver's options list is broadly similar to the A1 Sport's, with buyers given the choice of speccing dual-zone climate control (£450), high-beam assist (£135) and a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel (£250). Audi’s Comfort and Sound pack (£995) is also available, which adds an uprated Bang & Olufsen stereo system, heated front seats and a more advanced park assist function.
