Audi updates line-up for 2022 with new tech and trim features

Almost every car in Audi’s line-up has received a tweak, with major updates including Amazon Alexa integration and a Sonos stereo

Audi S5

Audi has introduced a host of updates for its model line-up, just in time for the 2022 plate change. With the exception of the recently launched Q4 e-tron and the e-tron GT, as well as the A8 limousine, all of the brand’s models get some cosmetic tweaks and technology updates.

Amazon Alexa is now supported on every Audi model except the Q2, TT and R8. The update adds a host of new voice commands, grants access to music and audiobooks from Amazon and allows owners to control smart home functions, such as lighting and door locks.

Audi has also introduced a new Sonos stereo on the A1, Q2 and Q3, which replaces the Bang & Olufsen system on the top-tier Vorsprung model or if the firm’s optional Comfort and Sound Pack is specified. Elsewhere, the A3, A4, A5, A6 and A7 Sportback get new sustainable Dinamica upholstery inside, which is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Audi has chopped its trim-level structure around, too, dropping the limited-run Edition 1 specification from the A5 in favour of its Black Edition trim. The A7 also gets a new spec between the entry-level Sport model and the middling S line variant, called Sport Edition.

It’s available with all of the firm’s non-RS engines, as well as the PHEV 50 TFSI e powertrain. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and gloss black replacements for the bumper trim, grille surround, brightwork and mirror caps.

Vorsprung and Black Edition cars also feature new black Audi four-ring badges and model designation plates to complement the standard black exterior trim. Read on for a run-down of the key equipment updates, itemised by model.

In addition to the new Sonos stereo, buyers also now get side assist on the flagship Vorsprung variant, which can monitor traffic sitting in the driver’s blind-spot up to 70 metres behind the vehicle.

A3 Sportback and Saloon

Vorsprung models get black badging and a fresh black grille surround, while the Edition 1 variant features new sports seats trimmed in a blend of synthetic leather and Dinamica microfibre.

A4 Saloon, Avant and allroad

All three cars now have wireless support for Android Auto, as well as Apple CarPlay. RS 4 Avant buyers can also opt for a head-up display  as a standalone option, which projects navigation instructions and driver assistance information. Audi A4 and S4 models get new five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.

A5 Sportback, Coupe and Cabriolet

The A5 also gets wireless Android Auto connectivity and an optional head-up display for the RS model, along with new 20-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can also specify a wind deflector on the Cabriolet as an optional extra.

A6 Saloon and Avant

Audi’s updates here are extensive. The previously optional Technology Pack is now standard across the range, bringing a digital gauge cluster, a wireless smartphone charger and upgraded navigation system to every model in the range.

Vorsprung models also get a heated steering wheel as standard, while S line and Black Edition cars recieve some new sport seats. Black Edition cars can be had with new 20-inch alloy wheels and there’s a new Ultra Blue metallic paint finish for S and RS models.

A7 Sportback

Alongside the new Sport Edition trim, there’s a choice of four new metallic paint finishes. S7 and RS 7 variants also benefit from Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus, which features dedicated displays for the gauge cluster when the cars are in Dynamic or Sport modes.

Q2

A Sonos sound system comes as standard on the Vorsprung model, or can be had as an optional extra as part of the Comfort and Sound Pack. Vorsprung and Black Edition cars also get some new black badging.

Q3 and Q3 Sportback

In addition to all the technology upgrades, the Q3 TFSI e plug-in hybrid is now available to order, with prices starting from £37,810. Vorsprung models also lose their Alcantara upholstery in favour of a synthetic leather alternative.

Q5 and Q5 Sportback

Amazon Alexa and wireless Android Auto now come as standard, while S line trim and above feature new sports seats with Dinamica microfibre upholstery.

Q7 and Q8

The only major update over the technology tweaks is a new Mythos Black paint finish. It can be specified as an optional extra.

e-tron and e-tron Sportback

Both cars are now optionally available with a 22kW on-board charger to replace the standard 11kW unit. The e-tron S can also be had in flagship Vorsprung specification.

TT and R8

The TT Vorsprung gets some new black badging, while the R8 gets Nappa leather upholstery in place of Alcantara on the old model. The sportscar also gets electric and pneumatic seat adjustment.
