Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo gets Goodwood debut

BMW tuners Alpina launch 3 Series-based B4 Bi-Turbo in coupe and convertible forms is now on sale, priced from £58,950

BMW Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo profile

Alpina is set to launch it new B4 Bi-Turbo in the UK at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Based on the latest 3 Series and 4 Series platform, the tuned petrol-engined car will start from £58,950 for the Coupe, rising to £62,950 for the Convertible variant – this features an insulated metal roof that closes in 20 seconds at up to 11mph.

Power comes from a re-engineered version of the 335i’s 3.0-litre straight six engine, meaning 0-62mph takes 4.2 seconds in the hardtop – almost half a second quicker than an entry-level Audi R8 Coupe – with the drop-top taking 0.3 seconds longer. A four-wheel drive version that won’t be available with right-hand drive will apparently cut this to 4.0 seconds.

Over here, the 402bhp and 600Nm of torque will be fed to the rear-wheels via a modified eight-speed automatic gearbox. Alongside the improved output, Alpina claims the B4 Bi-Turbo will manage 37.2mpg while emitting 177g/km of CO2, although in convertible guise expect only 35.3mpg at best and 186g/km CO2.

BMW Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo interior

The 50-strong engineering team likewise worked on improving the suspension, steering, aerodynamics and interior. Styling changes were honed in BMW’s wind tunnel, and there’s standard kit in the form of Adaptive M Sport Suspension, leather upholstery, climate control, bi-xenon headlights and electrically adjustable heated sports seats.

Alpina logos adorn the seat backs and door sills, with a Lavalina leather-trim steering wheel and Alpina Blue instruments further helping the interior stand out. 20-inch alloys and a quad exhaust system serve a similar function for the exterior.

Available in Alpina Blue or Green body colours, options can be chosen from BMW’s spec list, or else requested directly from Alpina.

Also on show at Alpina’s Goodwood stand this year is the new D3 Bi-Turbo – the fastest diesel production car in the world – and the German manufacturer’s XD3 compact SUV.
