Thule EuroPower

Electric bike carrier racks up plaudits

As we aim to shrink our carbon footprints, electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular. However, transporting them has been a problem as they are much heavier than conventional cycles. But now, rack specialist Thule has produced the world’s first e-bike carrier – and it’s an impressive piece of kit.

Fitted to a tow bar, the rack is no lightweight, yet is well made and capable of carrying up to two battery-powered bikes. The limit on what you can take will depend on the weight capacity of your tow bar – Thule has included a handy reference table in the instructions. A few minutes with a hex wrench is
all it takes to assemble the EuroPower, although getting it level on the bar can be tricky.

Once you’ve done that, though, loading and removing bikes is a breeze. There are even neat built-in clips to secure your number plate. On the road, with a couple of hefty machines, the rack was rock solid. Our only criticisms are the weight, plus that equally hefty price tag.

Verdict

Thule EuroPower
* Price: £345
* Problems? Heavy, expensive, plus a tow bar is required.
* So why buy? All-in-one solution that is superbly engineered and able to carry a weighty electric bike.
