Xtand Go V2

Revised iPhone mount gets a grip

Xtand Go V2

Price: £26.95

The maker of the new Xtand Go iPhone mount hopes to replicate the success of its previous unit, which was awarded four stars in our Issue 1,104 test.

The revised stand still has three rotating plastic cylinders, connected by two hinges, which help the package fold down to a pocket-sized 7cm square. This means it fits easily into the glovebox when not in use.

Previously, the Xtand gripped the iPhone’s four corners. The new version has two simpler side grips – these are perfectly suited to the iPhone 4, and keep the volume buttons and camera accessible.

The suction-cup mount can only be secured to the glass with the phone out of the holder. It’s a job that requires two hands, as you need to twist the base and hold the stalk at the same time. Our major complaint was the lack of adjustment – the new Xtand is strictly for naked iPhone 4s; other mobiles or those in cases won’t fit.

And while it held our phone securely when driving over bumps and potholes, and offers portrait and landscape modes, that’s the least you expect for the £26.95 price.
