Long-term test review: VW Golf GTE - pictures

The Golf GTE has a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor, together putting out 201bhp. 

GTE takes four hours to fully charge, but as the car can top up its range on the move, you can plug it in for 45 minutes and have enough to get on the open road and recharge.

You need to make sure a hybrid properly fits in with your lifestyle before you take the plunge over a regular diesel hatch.

We've been all over the country in our short time with the car.

It's not the fastest hatch around, but it's quick enough and has wowed us at different tracks by hitting 80mph in near silence.
