The new Volkswagen Golf Estate will start from £17,915
Volkswagen has announced prices for the new Golf Estate, with orders books opening on 2 July. Prices start from £17,915 for the Golf Estate in S trim, and rise to £25,855 for top-spec GT trim – an increase of £765 over the equivalent Golf hatchback.
All Golf Estate models come as standard with Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, DAB radio, a 5.8-inch colour screen, and an XDS differential. In entry-level S trim, prices start from £17,915 and rise to £20,540.
Moving up the range, SE models gain ADC automatic distance control with emergency braking, 16-inch alloys, and auto lights and wipers. Prices for models in SE trim start from £20,620 and rise to £24,405.
Range-topping GT models receive larger 17-inch alloys, sports suspension, sat-nav, electric mirrors and parking sensors, with prices starting at £23,935 and increasing to £25,855.
Four petrol engines are available: the entry level 84bhp 1.2-litre TSI with five-speed manual, plus a 104bhp version of the same engine which buyers can specify with a seven-speed DSG. A 1.4-litre TSI engine with either 120bhp or 138bhp is also available, with the latter boasting cylinder deactivation tech for improved fuel economy.
Diesel choices include an 89bhp 1.6-litre TDI fitted with a five-speed manual, a 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI with five-speed manual or the optional seven-speed DSG gearbox, and finally, a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG.
Volkswagen has increased boot space by 100 litres over the previous Golf Estate, upping total capacity to 605 litres versus the 380 litres of the Golf hatch. Fitted with a multi-level floor, the rear seats can also fold completely flat which boosts total space to 1,620 litres – an increase of 125 litres over its predecessor.
Like the hatchback, the Golf Estate will feature Bluemotion technology, which comprises of a stop-start system and battery regeneration, for fuel economy of 72.4mpg in the 1.6-litre TDI models. For the first time the Golf Estate will also be available as a full Bluemotion model, likely to include aerodynamic tweaks, for economy of more than 80mpg.
Orders for the Golf Estate open on July 2 with deliveries being made later in the year.
