Posh new Toyota Hilux Invincible X arrives to top pick-up range

For many car manufacturers, adding the word 'invincible' to the end of a car’s name would be too much like tempting fate. But Toyota has been doing just that with its top-of-the-range Hilux pick-up for a while – and now there’s a new, even plusher version for rivals to contend with, and it's confidently called the Invincible X.

The Hilux Invincible X adds a range of personalisation options to the existing Toyota Hilux Invincible specification. It’s powered by the 169bhp 3.0-litre D-4D diesel engine found in existing Hilux models, and prices start at £23,842 (+VAT).

Toyota says the new model retains the impressive go-anywhere ability for which the Hilux has become known over the years, but stands out from lesser models with a series of styling upgrades, all included in the price. 

For starters, customers can spec their Toyota Hilux Invincible X with a choice of four 17-inch alloy wheel designs. These include the standard Invincible rim, as well as a new Rica five-spoke design in all-black or two-tone finishes. 

Chrome tubular sidebars are also part of the Invincible X package, and buyers can even specify step grips.

In addition, there's the option of a rear hi-over bar, while Invincible X spec includes the Style Pack, which brings a front guard, silver-coloured under-run, aluminium-finish scuff plates, chrome door handles and chrome surrounds for the bonnet air intake and rear lamp clusters. 

Inside, customers can choose from four finishes for the standard leather seats: the basic Invincible black, or custom two-tone black with contrasting seatback and cushion inserts in grey, saddle tan or deep red. The custom designs are additionally embossed with the ‘X’ logo, while the full black upholstery bears the Invincible name. 

And as it's based on the Hilux Invincible, the newcomer has loads of equipment. Dusk-sensing headlights, front foglights, rear privacy glass and electrically adjustable heated door mirrors feature on the long standard kit list, as do front sports seats, climate control, cruise control and the Toyota Touch 2 touchscreen-controlled multimedia system with Bluetooth. There's also a full set of airbags, Vehicle Stability Control and a rear-view camera.   

The Invincible X is available exclusively in Double Cab form with the 169bhp 3.0-litre D-4D diesel. This can be matched to a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. As you would expect, this Hilux is engineered for all conditions, with a permanent four-wheel-drive system and an auto-disconnecting differential. It also offers a 2.8-tonne towing capacity. 

Toyota is now taking orders for the Invincible X, and has priced the pick-up at £23,842 (+VAT) for the manual model and £24,842 (+VAT) for the automatic.
