Suzuki SX4 S-Cross - best crossovers

The S-Cross is a bit smaller than many current crossovers, but it offers great value

The SX4 S-Cross is a decent addition to the crossover market. It’s built on an all-new platform and can be equipped with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. It also has one of the biggest boots in class. And with prices starting from around £15,000, it undercuts rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and the Mazda CX-5 by quite some way.

It offers good value for money in terms of equipment, too. Even entry-level SZ3 models get alloy wheels, electric windows, cruise control and air con. While top spec models get heated leather seats, panoramic sliding sun roof, sat-nav, reversing cameras, Bluetooth and DAB radio.

There is a petrol and a diesel engine on offer, but the former is little underpowered. The diesel is very capable and offers fuel economy just shy of 70mpg. The Suzuki’s steering is accurate, too.

However, the ride is harsh and is likely to annoy in town driving. The SX4 S-Cross also had a facelift last year to improve the rather generic styling, but the big chrome grille is likely to split opinion.
