The Suzuki Alto isn't as neatly styled as its rivals - if anything it looks a bit fussy.

The interior is well screwed together but scratchy plastics and niggles like a lidless glovebox become tiresome.
The Alto's engine is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit with predictably pedestrian performance.

Base Altos are very cheap, but also very spartan - step up to the SZ3 or SZ4 trim for a decent level of equipment.
The Alto has agile handling but loses grip quickly.
