The Renault Megane's facelift aims to bring it back into line with rivals like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.

The model lineup has been simplified, with four trim levels and four bodystyles.

All versions are well equipped, with all but the base model featuring sat-nav, parking sensors and climate control.

GT-Line trim adds a sporty bodykit.

Boot space is a strong point, with 405 litres of space eclipsing the 380 offered by the VW Golf.

The 1.2 TCe petrol unit is excellent - the 1.6 litre is old-fashioned and thirsty.
