New Renault Espace 2015 review - pictures

Here we test the new Renault Espace in top-spec Initiale Paris guise, powered by the same 197bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol you'll find in the Renaultsport Clio hot hatch. 

The engine never feels fast like it does in the Clio, but that's down to the Espace's 400kg weight disadvantage over the hatch. 

Flagship Initiale Paris model gets all the kit you could ask for, including full Nappa leather and heated massage seats, laminated windows and the attractive dashboard with Volvo XC90-style portrait touchscreen. 

There's plenty of space in the rear of the Espace. 

The new Espace is more of an MPV-come-crossover than out-and-out MPV like the old version. 

The reason for the new crossover bodystyle is Renault responding to changing market trends. 

Top-spec Initiale Paris models cost about £2,850 over next-level Intens specification, and offers features like concierge servicing and improved dealer experience. 

Unique 19-inch alloys and exclusive colour selection come with this top of the range model. 

Its clear Renault has placed the emphasis on comfort - it wallows and floats around corners rather than attacking them with finesse. 

The four-wheel steering, dubbed 4CONTROL, works well, but the Ford S-MAX remains a sweeter drive. 

Renault has hinted the MPV-come-crossover styling of the Espace may find its way onto other mainstream models in the not-too-distant future. 

The Espace has adopted Renault's latest design, featuring slim lights that flow into the grille, with LED daytime running lights adding to the attractive look of the car. 

The panoramic sunroof is the only thing on this car that doesn't come as standard. 

All cars feature a portrait-style touchscreen similar to that of the new Volvo XC90.
