Updated Renault Captur gets new automatic diesel powertrain

Renault's Captur dCi 90 diesel receives option of dual-clutch automatic gearbox, arriving later this month

Renault Captur dCi 90 automatic

Renault has added a new powertrain to the recently facelifted Captur, introducing a new diesel engine and automatic transmission combination for its refreshed Citroen C4 Cactus and Vauxhall Crossland X rival.

It’s now available with a dCi 90 diesel power unit mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre unit gets 89bhp and 220Nm of torque, meaning Capturs fitted with it, alongside the new gearbox, are capable of 0-62mph in 13.8 seconds and a top speed of 107mph.

In terms of fuel economy, Renault claims that this new engine/gearbox combination is capable of delivering 72.4mpg on a combined run, alongside CO2 emissions of 101g/km.

Those figures confirm that the addition of the automatic transmission leaves a slight dent on the dCi 90 powertrain’s economy and efficiency – Renault claims 76.3mpg and sub 100g/km CO2 for the same engine mated to a manual gearbox.

The dCi 90 automatic powertrain will be available on four Captur trim levels, kicking off at £20,125 for Dynamique Nav. The Dynamique S version will be priced from £21,675, while Signature S Nav and Signature X Nav cars go on sale from £23,294 and £24,005 respectively. Order books are open now, with first deliveries pencilled in for later this month.
