Renault Talisman confirmed as next Laguna

The Renault Talisman will replace the defunct Laguna, but no plans for UK sales

Renault’s new D-segment saloon will be called the Talisman, company bosses have confirmed. The car will replace the Laguna as a rival for the Volkswagen Passat, Mazda 6 and Ford Mondeo from later this year.

Renault says the name conjures up notions of ‘protection and power’, while also being ‘an easy word to pronounce and understood the world over.’

However, a company spokesman confirmed to Auto Express that Renault has no plans to bring the Talisman to the UK. Like the new Renault Espace, the saloon car has not been engineered for right-hand drive, meaning a future British debut is very unlikely.

Renault has today released a short teaser film of the new Talisman, but is keeping further details close to its chest.

What we do know is that the new model will ditch the familiar hatchback shape in favour of a more conventional saloon bodystyle. Previous spy shots and our exclusive render show a larger corporate grille, adorned by the bigger Renault badge from the current Clio and Captur.

Inside, the Talisman will feature the same portrait touchscreen as the new Renault Espace, with all the car’s controls conveniently located in one place. A digital instrument cluster is also expected.

More information will be released on 6 July, ahead of a likely public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
