Porsche Macan gets high-performance 'GTS' treatment

Porsche gives its baby SUV more power and sharper handling; Macan GTS priced from £55,188

The Porsche Macan range is hotting up, as the brand has revealed a new GTS version of the sporty SUV. Priced from £55,188, the more focused model features extra power, an uprated chassis and racier styling details.

Porsche saves its GTS badges for the most driver-orientated cars in its range. So the Macan GTS gets the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 as the Macan S, yet uprated to 355bhp – slotting it in between the S and Macan Turbo in terms of performance.

That extra 25bhp means the GTS is capable of 0-62mph in five seconds flat with the Sport Chrono pack fitted, which is four-tenths quicker than the S but two-tenths slower than the Turbo. Flat out, the compact SUV will manage 160mph.

It gets Porsche’s seven-speed PDK auto box and four-wheel drive as standard. There’s also a sports exhaust system for extra aural thrills. Efficiency drops slightly from the S, with the GTS claiming 31.4mpg economy and CO2 emissions of 212g/km.

However, as it’s a GTS, extra attention has been paid to the chassis. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has been set up in a “more sporting state of tune”, while the ride height has also been lowered and wider rear tyres sit on black 20-inch rims.

Those wheels are part of the usual GTS styling garnish, which includes black exterior detailing and a GTS-specific Sport Design pack. For the first time on a Macan, buyers can opt for full-LED headlamps as well.

Inside, you’ll find GTS sports seats, but there’s not much else to set it apart from the regular model. Still, the latest-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) makes its debut in the Macan, after it first appeared in the latest-generation 911

As well as PASM, standard equipment includes a DAB radio, Bluetooth front and rear park assist and an electric tailgate. In addition, buyers are able to take part in a free course at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone in Northamptonshire.
