Porsche 911 Turbo facelift spy shots reveal new interior

Undisguised 2015 facelift of Porsche's 911 Turbo shows minor styling tweaks and a new touchscreen interface inside

Blink and you'll miss it, but this is the facelifted Porsche 911 Turbo, revealed in our spy shots. The minor revamp is part of an update for the whole 911 range that will go on sale at the end of the year, and the Turbo gets subtly redesigned exterior details and a revised interior.

You'll have to look closely to spot the bodywork changes, as they're restricted to updates to the grille and front bumper design to improve cooling, as well as tweaked front lights with new internal graphics and LED running lenses.

At the rear, the intakes have been revised to remove more hot air from the engine bay, while the tail-lamps have been sharpened up. Most of the exterior changes are based around improving aerodynamic efficiency, rather than giving the Turbo a new look.

More important for most 911 fans will be the revisions to the interior, and our spy shots show a new, larger central touchscreen interface – an evolution of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system used in the firm's current range. It's expected to get increased connectivity, better graphics and more advanced navigation mapping.

The 911 Turbo also gets a racier new steering wheel similar to that found the 918 hypercar. Although it obviously does without the controls for the 918's advanced hybrid powertrain, this is a special touch for buyers to enjoy. It's not clear yet whether this wheel will be rolled out across the rest of the 911 range.

There's also no word on whether Porsche plans to upgrade the 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine over and above the 512bhp of the current car (562bhp for the Turbo S), although minor power and efficiency gains are predicted to raise it further above rivals such as the Nissan GT-R.

The updates mean that, confusingly, the Turbo won't be the only forced-induction model in the range as turbocharged units are rolled out across the board. We'll probably see the facelifted 911 line-up at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
