Porsche 911 GT3 RS facelift spied: more crazy aero for 992.2 version and something else hiding under the carbon!
More speed, more engagement and more tech are on the cards for Porsche’s new road-racer
Porsche’s engineers are continuing work on another new iteration of the 911 GT3 RS. This hardcore and track-focused variant typically evolves slowly over its generations, and while this prototype doesn’t look different to the existing model, it could be hiding more substantial changes under the skin.
For the most part, there don’t appear to be too many differences on this recently spied 992.2 prototype compared to the existing 992.1 version. Some new elements can be seen around the rear including a new rear light bar, plus a reshaped diffuser that integrates a larger set of exhaust pipes.
However, look closely and you’ll also spot a couple of new outlets at the diffuser’s outer edges. These could be supplementary exhaust outlets to help reduce back-pressure in the system, or could signal bigger changes to the powertrain as a whole.
Porsche has been clear about the challenges of keeping its naturally-aspirated 4-litre flat-six engine within European emissions rules. This could be addressed with turbocharging or hybrid intervention, but such a move would also represent a big change in focus for the GT3 RS - a model which has a very loyal customer base.
Whether the 992.2 includes such changes remains to be seen, but if you’re wanting to experience a naturally-aspirated Porsche 911, check out the Auto Express Buy A Car service for all the latest deals.
What else is new on the 992.2?
There are a few other, minor changes visible, such as a reprofiled set of bonnet bents which now include smaller vanes and a small flick at their base. We also expect changes inside the cabin, including the use of a purely digital control interface and the option of folding carbon bucket seats – two elements available in the latest 992.2 GT3.
Either way, Porsche has a busy end of 2025 coming up, with a new 911 Turbo only weeks away from its reveal, plus an all-new generation of electric Cayenne. As a result, we don’t expect any more substantial news on this latest GT3 RS until much later in the year or early next.
