Peugeot 308 SW - Best estate cars 2017

The 308 SW has a classy interior and leads the way for outright boot space in the compact class

Peugeot 308 SW - front

Put simply, the 308 SW has the biggest boot in its class, and dwarfs some from the class above. That on its own would make it a top-class estate car, but Peugeot's hard work has been concentrated elsewhere, too.

Sharing a platform with the standard 308 helps, and the 308 SW retains that car's easy character and comfy ride. It also carries over the excellent engine range, including the PureTech petrols - you might even consider choosing one over a diesel, a rarity in this class, although the BlueHDi diesel units are fantastic, too.

The Peugeot 308 SW has a minimalist interior and dash design, with most functions relegated to the central touchscreen. It's an arrangement that works pretty well - though sometimes you hanker for some physical air-conditioning controls. Dividing opinion too is the odd arrangement of high-set dials and shrunken steering wheel. Peugeot say it gives a sportier feel - many say they simply can't see them. Take a test drive before you buy to find out!

Superb fuel economy, decent quality and a fast-improving reputation for reliability and dealer service rounds off the 308 SW's impressive list of pros, and makes it well worth considering.
