Ultra exclusive Rolls-Royce Boat Tail convertible commission floats in

Just three Boat Tails have been built, with this one heading to a very special Rolls-Royce customer

Rolls-Royce has revealed another ultra-exclusive Boat Tail commission, showcasing some incredible levels of personalisation, luxury and rarity. Just three Boat Tails are planned for production with previous models going to rap superstar Jay-Z and a wealthy Chinese businessman.

Rolls-Royce says this car has been built for “a patron whose family business has grown from his father's origins in the pearling industry”.

The luxury car maker says that the client presented four pearl shells to provide inspiration for the car’s golden exterior colour. The hand-built Boat Tail also houses a unique 'butterfly-design hosting suite’ on what Rolls-Royce calls the rear deck. There’s also the ‘Pantheon Grille’ at the front, which is milled from a single, solid billet of aluminium. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy is fashioned in rose gold.

The interior uses a mix of cognac and oyster-coloured leather and Royal Walnut veneer throughout. There’s also rose gold pinstripes on the centre console and the dashboard features a clock supplied by the client from his own extensive collection.

There are no changes mechanically to this Boat Tail from others in the commission, with it measuring a gargantuan 5.8 metres long. It uses a modified version of the Phantom’s aluminium space frame architecture and under the bonnet the same twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine.

Rolls-Royce hasn’t revealed performance figures but the engine should produce the same 536bhp and 900Nm of torque as the Phantom so expect a 0-62mph time of around 5.3 seconds. It’s unlikely that kind of spirited driving will ever occur with this Boat Tail with a price tag of around £22million.

This model of the Boat Tail will be revealed publicly at the Concorso d'Eleganza, Villa d’Este concours meeting on 21 May.
