Mammoth Mercedes S600 Pullman limo spied

Spy shots of the huge six-door Mercedes S600 Pullman have emerged and there's even an armoured version expected

It's the best news the world's dictators and oligarchs have had all week; the bombastic Mercedes S600 Pullman has been spied testing, and it's not exactly difficult to spot.

The Pullman is predicted to sit below the ultra-lavish S600 Maybach that we saw a few months ago but it's over a metre longer than that luxury Mercedes flagship. At around 6.4 metres long and, most likely,  exceeding three tonnes in weight, the Pullman certainly isn't designed for tight urban streets.

The door layout looks to be different than the official patent drawings we saw in August, with full-size middle doors that match the front and back ones in length. This confirms the expectation that the Pullman will have three rows of seats, probably in a luxurious 2-2-2 configuration. The roofline appears to be taller too, to accommodate royal wedding headgear.

We originally understood that Brabus, Mercedes' tuning partner, is responsible for building the Pullman, although there is nothing in the spyshots to indicate the car will be even remotely sporty. It will have an adaptation of the current 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 currently fitted to the S600.

That engine makes 523bhp in the S600 but if Brabus are in fact having an input, expect a fair bit extra in the horsepower department. And it will need extra if rumours of an armoured version ring true. With a bullet and grenade proof heavy steel bodyshell, that version could exceed five tonnes and cost over £500,000.

Price details are sketchy for the standard Pullman, as they are for the Maybach, but we expect both will be significantly more expensive than any current S-Class, with the Maybach approaching £200,000, and the Pullman around £160,000. Both should be unveiled fully at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November.
