McLaren Ultimate Vision designed for Gran Turismo game

Ahead of the release of Gran Turismo Sport, McLaren are the latest company to delve into the fictional world of the real driving simulator

A month prior to the release of Gran Turismo Sport, the seventh edition of the acclaimed driving game franchise, McLaren has come up with a fictional concept car that will feature in the new video game.

The McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is the latest addition to the ‘Vision Gran Turismo’ line-up that made its first appearance in Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3.

Vision GT gave manufacturers the platform to create otherworldly cars, showcasing futuristic design and intense performance. McLaren’s concept is set to go that bit further for the new GT title that will make its PlayStation 4 debut on the 18th October in the UK.

GT Sport players will look forward to a 1,150bhp hybrid powertrain to master, along with Integrated Active Aero features and a central driving position reminiscent of the classic McLaren F1.

The ‘Ultimate Vision GT’ was designed to demonstrate McLaren’s design thinking and technological expertise, with the ‘car’ bringing the driver beyond the year 2030. The future-savvy McLaren bares resemblance to the Red Bull X2010 virtual concept car that first featured in Gran Turismo 5, which paved the way for the Vision GT programme.

Polyphony Digital launched Vision Gran Turismo in 2013, prior to the release of GT6 with Mercedes-AMG being the first to create a Vision GT concept. Since then, manufacturers from Aston Martin to Peugeot have produced stunning virtual cars that Gran Turismo players have enjoyed.

McLaren will debut their Vision GT concept car alongside fellow VGT rookies Bugatti and Hyundai, while Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi will lend his name to a Pininfarina-designed Vision GT concept.
