Updated 2015 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport details

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport now get more power, more efficiency and enhanced off-road technology

Jaguar Land Rover leads driverless car trials

Most of us would already consider the Range Rover to be one of the most advanced and luxurious cars on the road, but clearly Land Rover thinks it can do better. The brand has announced a raft of updates to engines and tech across the Range Rover line-up to keep it at the pinnacle of the SUV market.

There are upgrades to the popular diesel engines in the standard Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Where before the TDV6 used a twin-turbo, it now gets a large single turbocharger, as well as various tweaks. The result is that, while power remains at 254bhp and torque at 600Nm, efficiency is improved, with the TDV6 claiming 40.9mpg economy and 182g/km CO2 emissions.

The SDV6 gets similar treatment but retains the twin-turbo set-up. It now delivers an extra 100Nm of torque, bringing the total to a whopping 700Nm, while power is up by 13bhp. However, it's also become 7% more efficient, now achieving 40.4mpg and 187g/km.

The revisions also include world-first technology called All-Terrain Progress Control (a £175 option), designed to improve the Range Rover's already impressive off-road abilities. This is essentially an advanced type of cruise control for serious off-roading – you simply set your desired speed (between 1mph and 19mph), and the Range Rover will constantly maintain it over almost any terrain.

Finally, there's a new £1,000 optional head-up display set-up, which can relay a wide variety of information into the driver's line of sight. Also added is a striking new Yulong White paintjob.

The new tech and engines are available to order now, on both Range Rover models, and prices remain unchanged. This means the standard Range Rover starts at £73,950, with the Range Rover Sport costing from £61,250.
