Land Rover Discovery Sport Ingenium 2.0 review - pictures

The Discovery Sport is still fairly new, but now Land Rover has dropped its new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine - also found in the Jaguar XE - into the car to boost its appeal.

The engine can be had in two states of tune - 148bhp and 178bhp. Here we test the higher-powered version in top-spec HSE Luxury trim.

Inside, the Discovery Sport is unchanged.

The Disco Sport is a great family car. Its 5+2 seating arrangement means there's plenty of space, but the rearmost seats are best reserved for children. Entry-level models only get 5 seats, though.

The Disco Sport with this new Ingenium engine will return up to 57.7mpg and emits 129g/km of CO2 in the lower-powered model, meaning it's now more appealing to fleet buyers.

Prices now start from £30,695, which is £1,670 lower than before. Entry-level models sacrifice the third row of seats, though.

Behind the wheel, there's a greater sense of refinement. It handles well, is composed at high speed and has an abundance of grip.

Engine vibrations are well suppressed from the cabin when you start the engine, and there's no clatter from under the bonnet.

Everywhere else the Discovery Sport is the same as before - including the latest infotainment screen shown here.

The 178bhp HSE and HSE Luxury models are expected to be the best-selling, equipped with the optional nine-speed automatic gearbox. It works more harmoniously with the new engine, with punchy changes keeping the engineworking in its opt

As you would expect, the Disco Sport is incredibly capable in the rough stuff.

The new engine has 430Nm of torque, meaning the Discovery Sport has enough shove to propel you along at a fair pace on the road, but also has enough grunt off of it, too.

0-62mph takes 8.4 seconds. The higer-powered version emits 139g/km of CO2 and returns 53.3mpg.

The steering has a nice weight to it, but it doesn't feel quite as light on its feet as the BMW X3.

The stylish, luxurious and versatile package is now complemented by the engine the car deserved from the beginning.
