Jaguar F-Type design study for Goodwood

One-off Jaguar F-Type convertible to debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Jaguar has confirmed that an F-Type design study, based on the F-Type convertible, will make its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

Details are being kept quiet until later this week, although Jaguar has confirmed that the car will be driven up the famous Goodwood hillclimb by Jaguar’s Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, Mike Cross.

As the event is a celebration of high-speed motoring, we expect the special F-Type to be a higher-performance model, possibly previewing an F-Type R.

Aside from the special F-Type Jaguar will also show its three new 'R'-badged models in the UK for the first time.

The Jaguar XFR-S, XJR and limited edition XKR-S GT will be driven up the hill over the course of the weekend.

For a little added PR appeal, six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy will drive the XKR-S GT on the Friday supercar run, with Gran Turismo PlayStation game producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, taking the wheel on the Saturday.

The XKR-S GT is currently limited to 30 left-hand drive models for the North American market, and features a complete aerodynamic overhaul, including a huge rear wing the generates 145kg of downforce at 186mph.

However, the car’s presence in the UK is thought to be a precursor to extra units of the £130,000 car, in right-hand drive, being produced.

The XJR is the new flagship model for the XJ range can complete the 0-62mph sprint in 4.4 seconds, can hit 174mph and costs from £92,500. The XFR-S is powered by the same engine and costs from £79,995.

Jaguar will also have its heritage fleet out in force at Goodwood, including a record-breaking XK 120, a D-Type, a Group C Jaguar XJR-9, which won Le Mans in 1988, and the only Jaguar XJ13 in existence.
