“Unleashed” launched as 400bhp Jaguar E-Type restomod

The rebuilt Jaguar E-Type is fitted with a tuned 6.1-litre V12 engine and a whole host of modern creature comforts

Kent-based Jaguar E-Type restorer E-Type UK has revealed a new restomod brand called Unleashed, which will produce bespoke, restored E-Type models with modern performance and equipment for customers.

The first Unleashed car is based on a Series 3 E-Type - the last iteration of the car before it was discontinued in 1974. E-Type UK has made minimal cosmetic tweaks to its design, with the firm expressing a desire to “retain the unmistakable outline” of the original car.

It costs £325,000 (excluding the cost of the donor vehicle) and features a tuned V12 engine, an uprated chassis and modern equipment and features designed to make the E-Type easier to live with on a daily basis. Each car takes 4,000 hours to complete.

It comes with a new set of LED headlamps in place of the car’s old halogen units, and some slightly larger 16-inch wire wheels. There’s also a slightly redesigned radiator grille and a new wrap-around chrome bumper.

The interior has also been overhauled with a host of creature comforts such as custom heated leather seats, piano black dashboard trim and new gauges which are backlit with LEDs. There’s also a modern stereo, air-conditioning and, even though we very much doubt the car will venture out on a frosty winter morning, a heated front windscreen.

It’s engine is based on the same V12 unit found in the original car, although it’s been extensively modified to improve both performance and reliability. As a result of the upgrades, power has risen from 272bhp to 400bhp.

E-Type UK has increased the engine’s capacity from 5.3 litres to 6.1 litres. The firm has also fitted a new 12-branch ceramic coated stainless steel exhaust manifold and a new electronic fuel injection system to replace the standard quad carburetors.

E-Type UK has also fitted a freer-flowing aluminium radiator, a new oil cooler and ECU-controlled cooling fans. The drivetrain upgrades are rounded off with a new lightened flywheel and a fresh five-speed manual gearbox.

To cope with the extra power, E-Type UK’s engineers have overhauled the car’s chassis, fitting new springs, new anti-roll bars and fully adjustable shock absorbers, which allow the car to be set up for either ride comfort or outright handling. There are also some modern vented brake discs and four-piston calipers.
