Hyundai i10 1.0 S - Cheapest cars to run

Cheapest cars to run - Hyundai i10 1.0 S: total cost of ownership: £8,648.25

Best first cars for new drivers - Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 is a close relation to the Kia Picanto, although it's only available as a five-door. That explains in part why its running costs are slightly higher than the Picanto, because it's a bit more expensive, but then it's still less to run than five-door versions of the Picanto.

The extra doors boost access to the back seats, which are roomy for two, but a bit of a squeeze for three. What's great about the i10 is its grown-up feel on the road, and it's just at home on the motorway as it is in town. The revvy three-cylinder engine is a keen performer, and the quality of the cabin is good for the money. Add in Hyundai's five-year warranty, and the i10 is a tempting choice.

Total cost of ownership (3-years, 36,000 miles): £8,648.25Monthly running costs: £240.23Cost per mile: 29p
