Ford Mondeo gets £2,500 price cut and a simplified range

A restructured Ford Mondeo range, with Zetec Edition and ST-Line Edition models added, plus price cuts aim to make the car more appealing

Ford has simplified the Mondeo line-up, cutting the range down from seven trim levels to five and slashing the starting price by £2,500.

The range now kicks off with Zetec Edition models, which are priced from £19,445 – that’s still £695 more than the entry-level Vauxhall Insignia. The rest of the range includes sporty ST-Line and ST-Line Edition models and a more luxury-based Titanium Edition. Range topping Vignale models now start from £27,545, which is a £3,000 price cut.

All models come fitted with A DAB radio, sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Both ST-Line models add reprofiled front and rear bumpers, lowered sports suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels. Opting for a Titanium Edition brings leather heated seats with 10-way power adjustment.

The Mondeo is exceptionally popular with fleet and company car drivers, with the changes made to the range aimed at helping reduce BIK monthly payments. For the 40 per cent taxpayer, opting for an ST-Line Edition powered by a 148bhp 2.0 TDCi diesel will bring buyers savings of £720 over three years.

Range-topping Vignale models account for 13 per cent of Mondeo sold in the UK, but ST-Line models are expected to make up the bulk of sales for private buyers.

Will these range tweaks improve the fortunes of the Ford Mondeo? Have your say in the comments...
