New 99g/km Ford Focus EcoBoost

Tweaked Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost is the most efficient petrol-powered car in its class

Ford has revealed an even more efficient version of the 99bhp three-cylinder Ford Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost, with CO2 emissions of 99g/km and fuel economy of 67.5mpg. That makes it the only petrol-powered car in its class to emit less than 100g/km of CO2.

The groundbreaking figure is a achieved by remapping the ECU and fitting a range of fuel-saving ECOnetic technologies. These include low-resistance tyres, aerodynamic tweaks to improve airflow under the car and revised gear ratios.

Compared to a first-generation 1.6-litre Ford Focus, the current model fitted with the new 99bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is more powerful and produces 47 per cent less CO2.

The tweaked 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine now extends the Focus EcoBoost model range to three. A standard version of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost developing 99bhp and emitting 109g/km of CO2 and a 123bhp version emitting 114g/km of CO2 are already available.

Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has been a big success. Available in the Fiesta supermini, B-Max, C-Max as well as the seven-seat Grand C Max, Ford also plans to make the frugal engine available in the Mondeo and a range of their commercial vans too. The new engine will be available to order from early 2014.

Ford has also announced new trim levels for the Focus, aimed specifically at business users. The Focus Zetec Navigator is now offered in addition to the Focus Zetec while the Focus Titanium Navigator replaces the Titantium trim level altogether.

In addition to Zetec, Zetec Titanium models get sat-nav, 16-inch alloys and a redesigned centre console, while Titanium Navigator models add Sony sat-nav and rear parking sensors. Navigator models carry a premium of around £250 over the existing Zetec and Titanium models.
